Stretching yourself - how much is too much?
November 11, 2009 Filed in: Change
I’m in the business of change. I help people change their relationships, their perspective on life, and their choices. This change requires varying degrees of growth from my clients.
How does one decide how much growth is ‘too much’ at any given time? I think it’s an important question to consider.
I do believe that most of us are capable of more than we realize, and that our tendency may be to stop stretching ourselves sooner than we need to – this ends up limiting our growth.
On the other hand, I also work with a lot of clients who really push themselves too hard, and they have a hard time knowing when to stop. For them, when they engage in the process of change, they sometimes pursue it almost too aggressively – and that can lead to burnout, and ultimately hinder the process.
As usual, it’s balancing act.
